Be an Ally for A11y!

Beyond compliance and legal requirements, true accessibility thrives on allyship. This introductory course empowers you to move from a passive bystander to an active ally for accessibility (a11y) and inclusion in the workplace. We will explore the foundational principles of disability and neurodiversity allyship, shifting our perspective from the medical model to the social model of disability. You will learn what it means to be an effective ally by understanding and practicing five key roles, each with actionable steps you can take to foster a more inclusive and equitable environment for people with disabilities and neurodivergence.

  • Define allyship in the context of accessibility (a11y) and neurodiversity.
  • Understand the difference between the medical and social models of disability and their implications for the workplace.
  • Identify and articulate the five key roles of an ally.
  • Apply practical, everyday actions for each of the five roles.
  • Cultivate a mindset of continuous learning, self-reflection, and humility as an ally.
