Note: Hiring for this position is contingent on funding for the A11ySpaces App.
The Role
A11ySpaces is only effective if our users know how to apply our recommendations in the real world. We are looking for an Instructional Developer to create the educational ecosystem that empowers our community. You will translate the app’s data into webinars, videos, courses, and job aids that make accessibility easy to understand for everyone from small business owners to seasoned contractors.
Core Responsibilities
- Course Creation: Design and develop interactive e-learning modules and video courses on accessibility best practices and app usage.
- Webinar Production: Host and produce live webinars and Q&A sessions featuring the founders and external accessibility consultants.
- Job Aid Design: Create high-impact, downloadable PDF checklists, “cheat sheets,” and on-site guides for contractors and facility managers.
- Brand Integrity: Ensure all educational materials strictly adhere to established brand guidelines, maintaining a consistent voice, tone, and visual identity across all platforms.
- Knowledge Base Management: Build and maintain the in-app “Help Center” and Discord resource library.
- User Onboarding: Develop the “First-Time User” training experience to ensure users get immediate value from the beta and full app.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Instructional Design: Proficiency with modern e-learning development tools and graphic design platforms.
- Visual Literacy: Ability to follow detailed brand style guides (typography, color theory, iconography) to produce professional, cohesive assets.
- Multimedia Production: Experience with video editing and screen-recording software for app tutorials.
- Accessibility in Learning: Expertise in creating accessible learning materials (closed captioning, alt-text for diagrams, screen-reader friendly PDFs).
- Communication: Exceptional ability to simplify complex technical or legal jargon into “layman’s terms.”
- Preferred Certifications (Nice to Have):
- ATD Certifications: CPTD (Certified Professional in Talent Development) or APTD (Associate Professional in Talent Development).
- Accessibility Certification: CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies)
- Evidence of continuing education through specialized instructional design certificates or accessibility-focused learning programs.
Shared Values for All Roles
- Inclusion Mindset: A deep-seated belief that accessibility is a human right.
- Problem Solvers: The ability to find creative solutions for “impossible” compliance overlaps.
- Collaborative: Comfortable working closely with a small, agile husband-and-wife founding team and external consultants.
- Outcome-Oriented Flexibility: We operate as a fully remote team with flexible schedules. We don’t track hours worked; instead, we focus on high-quality outcomes, hitting project milestones, and meeting established timelines. We trust our team to manage their own time to deliver the best results.
